Hey my name is Fotini Sarantis and I am 22 years old. This is my last semester in Queens College as an Undergraduate student. I am majoring in Elementary education with a co major in English. Last semester I taught in a fourth grade class at P.S. 132Q which is located in Springfield Gardens. Currently I am teaching a second grade class in P.S. 24 Q which is located in Flushing. I decided to go for elementary education because I like knowing that I can make a difference in someone’s life. Teaching little children at such an early age allows you as an individual to help set a strong foundation for future learning. Building on skills that need practice and working on new skills for a great education. There is much more to teaching then just reading from a book and that is what I look forward to every time I am in a classroom.
I enjoy being around children because they seem at ease. I have been a babysitter since I was fourteen years old and I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything. I have dealt with children of both genders, in multiple groups, on a one on one bases, and from as young as a newborn up until the age of 12 years old. This type of work has helped me realize what age group I am comfortable with and why I should stick with a career in education. I have helped several families when babysitting in many ways. Either with a summer job, after school job, all year around job and more. I have seen children grow and change based on what they have been learning and I am happy to say I was a part of that experience.
I love to do a lot of hands on work with children, and for myself. I like to scrapbook and bake. I feel like my hands on experiences allow me as a person to express myself and show my creativity to those that are interested. I would love to take classes like ceramic or pottery. I did paint at one point in my life, but I have stopped because I have no time. I wish that my hand on addiction rubs off in my future classrooms, so my children can show off their beautiful creations that were completed with a lot of hard work that took place behind closed doors.
